Side Show

Friday night I saw Side Show, a wonderful musical about Daisey and Violet Hilton the famous conjoined twins! The show told the story of how they went from "Freaks" to adored performers. I went to the show with one of my close friends who also attends Frank Sinatra with me, and we had a blast. It was a nice thing to do before being locked away in my apartment waiting for the Hurricane to start. Today I've got to get working on some new videos for our YouTube channel (be sure to watch our new video).

P.S. If you are interesting in seeing Side Show (which I highly recommend) you can visit secrettheatre.com and find out what night you will come see the show!

August

The past week I have had lots to do. Mostly monitoring the Facebook page to make everyone's life and email inbox more relaxed. I've also helped out with promoting the new semester of the Secret Theatre's Academy of Dramatic Arts, which starts September 10th. Speaking of we've created a new YouTube channel in order to show everyone how are academy works.

The summer is now coming to a close which is somewhat disappointing considering I'm starting my Junior year of high school. I'm not thrilled about starting "the most important school year", but I'll be going into it not having to worry about getting more community service hours. I'm so happy I've had this experience at the Secret Theatre, and I'm definitely looking forward to seeing what shows will be coming up.

First time blogging .... not so bad if I say so myself

Hello Everyone!!
My name is Mishka Balilty, I was born on June 12th 1985 on a Wednesday at 12:00 noon. As I came into this world I knew in my heart that I was meant to do something spectacular with my life. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine it would be moving to NY and interning at THE SECRET THEATRE!! In all seriousness, I did really move to NY from Canada and have recently began interning at The secret Theatre. I am very privileged to be working with Richard who is the founder and owner of the Secret Theatre, as well as all the hard working guys and girls.
I myself have always wanted to learn how to establish my own theater, and have struggled with the idea of how to accomplish this. By interning here I have and am still learning the skills of what is needed in order to do so. I am able to see the extent of hard work that goes into developing productions, renting space, and all the little projects that must be taken care of. Soo thank you for the good laughs so far ... I look forward to many more chuckles my way :)

Local and Jaws: The Musical

Friday the 1st I saw Local and Jaws with my friend from school. I came early to help out with the box office and I met him at the train.

Local was a story of a bunch of different people all on the 6 train together. It had a good plot and was well written but it moved somewhat slow. The actors were really good and funny and the music was really well written.

Although Local was pretty good, Jaws stole the show. The props were hilarious and the show in general was hysterical. They didn’t have much of a set but had some awesome ways of making specific actions hilariously comical. Like the red confetti which portrayed blood.

Afterwards my friend and I went to the Court Square Diner where I celebrated my tips from the box office!

Maddy, 15 years of age, drama student at FSSA.

I started out at the Secret Theatre in order to gain some experience in a theatre (considering I would love to be in the profession some day). Also I need 60 hours of community service in order to graduate. The only time I had ever set foot in the Secret Theatre was for my interview and to see the show Skin. Flesh. Bone. But I’ve felt welcome since the time I set foot inside.

I saw Skin. Flesh. Bone. on the 24th. It was the first show I had ever seen at the Secret Theatre and it was amazing. At first I was a little confused about what the story line was. But seeing it performed made it a lot easier to understand. It has a very emotional and complicated story line, one that isn’t so easy for someone my age to understand. But I felt it was written and performed beautifully.

My first day of work at the Secret Theatre (June 28th), and I started out with something that I was very knowledgeable about. I helped set up a Facebook group. This is when I realized that I didn’t know as much about Facebook as I thought I did.

Today I took pictures of the space for the website to help promote rentals. I used Photoshop for the first time, which wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be. Right now I’m managing the phone and what not.
